"A true working collection" - Elizabeth David and the Warburg Library

In this very special evening we launch a programme of food history-related events inspired by the private library of the legendary cookery writer Elizabeth David, who bequeathed many of her books to the Warburg Institute. During this talk we'll explore David's relationship with the Institute, the significance of her bequest, and how the rare books she collected informed her groundbreaking writing.


Introduced by Prof Bill Sherman, our speaker for the evening will be Thomas Marks, editor of Apollo magazine for most of the last decade and currently an Associate Fellow at the Warburg, researching a book on the place of (among other things) comedy, poetry and food in museums.


An in-person event for Friends and Supporters (featuring a display of David’s books and food inspired by her work) will be rescheduled for the new year.
